Olgazmick by Maplegood

I'm a bit overwhelmed,
this is a special post to say
to one of my Flickr friends
for the outstanding artwork
she created based on the picture
I took of Olgazmick that's featured
in this years Fresh Meat Festival
in San Francisco.

Her paintings have a certain
Francis Bacon meets Paula Rego
kind of feeling.
Raw and expressive,
all of her paintings
channel a queer kindred spirit
that relates with gender interpretation.

Healing Self Portrait

After my interview with
the young fab portuguese reporter
Ana Melro
about same sex marriage
some of you were concerned
about what exactly happend when I was bashed.

This was one of my most reluctant posts.
at the same time I feel
a certain need to exorcise some internal deamons,
without getting into much gore detail.

The year was 2005,
a night like many others
a club like many others
and me.

Best part of the night:

While I was dancing away in Guimaraes
(my hometown in Portugal)
I noticed a small stature lady
with a familiar face.
so I rushed up to her and said something like
"dont I know you from somewhere?"
and before she replied, I said
"of course, your that fabulous contemporary choreographer, Olga Roriz !!!"
and continued
"hey...I've always wondered, how do you manage to have
epileptic attacks ONLY when you go on stage ?"

Thank God she had a sense of humour
and we ended up laughing the whole night.

Worst part of the night:
the security guards from the club
asked me to go with them.
and before I understood what happend
I was assaulted and woke up at home
with broken teeth
and looking like this.

That's why in the interview
I say I have a lovely smile.

I might have only half of one of my front teeth
but hey, at least,
now when I laugh, I look like a vampire !!!

Shu Lea Cheang finale @ Hangar Barcelona

How can I put this ...
when I went to Hangar,
here in Barcelona
I knew the kids were up to something,
with a little help from
the multimedia mastermind
Shu Lea Cheang.

For over a month they explored,
colected, transformed, inserted, unraveled,
discovered, re-used, tasted, mutated
tons of disposed electronic and multimedia material.
Mix it with free use software, some cameras,
projections, and about 20 wiii remotes,
that interacted with the music (if you can call distorted noise music)

They decided to combine
tha official presentation of their performance
with the oppening of the other exhibitions
in Hangar, a place for art and creativity
located in Poble Nou,
one of the neighbourhoods here in Barcelona.

I was amazed to see that the HUGE warehouse
was so packed with curious croud of art loving freaks
that they had to ask the people to exit the building
otherwise the performers could't come in =)
with all the kerfuffle (insert Little Britain reference here)
I managed to sneak inside,
and after seing that Yasmin (waitress in Bata)
was in one of the corners of the room,
I asked her to go behind the devider so it would be easier to take photos.
she said "Of course ...."
so I jumped over to the other side
as she continued " But I doubt it's going to be any easier"
while she started wipping me with
a weird lantern-thingy with cables hanging out that ended in LED's !?!

If some of the pictures here seem blurred
it's because she was KIKING MY ASS !!!
